Hello!
I’m Julia Napier, the human behind Prairie Woodland Garden Design & Coaching here in Ferndale, Michigan. I grew up gardening with my mom, an avid gardener. She got me working in the dirt early!
I didn’t have a chance to cultivate my own space until years later I moved to the Midwest. I quickly fell in love with the rhythm of gardening with the seasons—each Spring is a new beginning that lets you appreciate each previous years’ hard work.
Through year after year of hands-on experience I’ve cultivated a lot of gardening know-how. I spend my indoor time (Winter!) reading and researching the methods, tools, and plants that gardeners need to know about. I am certified through the Friends of the Rouge in rain garden maintenance and am working on becoming a Master Gardener through Michigan State University.
More recently I’ve become aware of the importance of native plants. Eons of evolution have resulted in a delicate ecological web that supports insects, birds and all wildlife, including us! Human development is disrupting that web—but we can all do our part to restore it.
After working as an attorney for 10 years I decided it was time to follow my passion and start Prairie Woodland LLC. My goal is to use my knowledge and experience to bring the joy of gardening to others and help build beautiful, vibrant landscapes in the process.
